FAQS
Frequency asked questions
What's the deal with the wandering group?
Oh, it's just a bunch of us local guys getting together on a Sunday morning once a month to take a leisurely 5km stroll and chat. No pressure, no expectations or affiliations, just fresh air, good company, and a bit of movement to start the day as the sun comes up, plus a self-bought coffee together to finish at a nominated coffee shop.
I'm nervous about turning up and not knowing anyone.
This is completely normal and to be expected. We're a super friendly group, and most men turn up just minutes before the start time, so you're not alone in feeling this way. You'll fit right in.
What’s the dress code?
Dress code? Nah, just rock up in something comfy and some sneakers that can handle a stroll. Check the weather and dress for it; we keep it pretty casual. All wanderers participate at own risk and we have no branded hats or tee-shirts we expect you to wear.
Do I need to be from around here to join in?
Not at all! Whether you are a local or just passing through, if you fancy a wander and some banter, you're in.
Do you need to register to attend?
No, please just turn up for 630 am start on the nominated Sunday of each month from the selected post wander coffee shop door
Is this a young blokes’ thing, or can the elders join too?
We're all about inclusivity. Young, old, and in-between – if you're up for a relaxed wander and a yarn, you're welcome here. Our youngest wanderers in our communities are 15 and oldest 83, we are all about intergenerational connection at the wanders.
Mind if I bring my dog along?
Sure thing! Your dog is more than welcome to come wander with us, as long as they’re on a leash, great with other dogs and you clean up.
What if I'm running behind schedule?
No worries, we always leave on time but if you are running late text the community leader – we'll make sure you know where to find us on route.
Are you going to hit me up for cash to join?
Nope, keep your wallet in your pocket accept for when you buy your own coffee at the end of the wander! We also pay it forward for non wanderers but this is completely optional.
How long do we wander for, and do I need to be fit?
Typically, we're out for a relaxed 60 min, 5 km walk around the local streets and beach/ beach front if there is one in community. It's more about the conversation and the scenery than breaking a sweat. Everyone strolls at their own pace here and we don’t leave anyone behind. We have up to 5 different routes we use to mix it up each month
Do I have to stay for the post-wander coffee?
Not at all, this is completely optional, but most guys do stick around. It's a great time to relax and chat after the walk.

Putting the call out in April for local men young and old to join him on his early morning walk along the streets and foreshore of Mount Martha, Merv Stewart didn’t anticipate the response. He would be taking his usual sunrise stroll regardless, and when at the first scheduled session no one appeared 10 minutes before the designated start time of 6.15am, Merv prepared to set off alone from the starting point outside Mr Curtis.
